UC Santa Cruz's "Currents" newspaper
During the 2007-2008 academic year, UC Santa Cruz was looking for a facelift for their monthly paper entitled "Currents," which collected the previous month's press releases. Aside from getting the printed piece in color, they looked for new means of art (aside from the usual headshot of a professor or student). For certain articles, over the course of a few months, the publications staff approached me about working on illustrations.

The first was the "light brown apple moth." This piece (seen directly below) was my stab at the world of scientific illustration. The second piece was for a new class called "Blood and Oil," which covered the environmental impacts of the US's presence in Iraq. The image was a collage-tribute to all the topical items. The third piece was more on the "dull" side about campus leaders having a series of meetings with CEOs and stakeholders within Silicon Valley. The handshaking effect came into play, and each arm representing the world they are coming from.

The following academic year, "Currents" went under as a printed piece and was re-named "News & Events" (and was solely online).
